Eliminate Scraping with a Driveway Curb Ramp
If your car scrapes the bottom every time you pull in or out of your driveway, you're not alone. Many neighborhoods have rolled curbs that create a harsh incline between the street and the driveway, making it difficult for low-clearance vehicles to pass over without damage. A driveway curb ramp is the perfect solution to smooth out that transition and prevent expensive repairs to your vehicle’s undercarriage.
Why You Need a Driveway Curb Ramp
A curb ramp isn’t just about comfort—it’s about protecting your vehicle from unnecessary wear and tear. If you drive a car with low ground clearance, such as a sports car, luxury sedan, or electric vehicle, rolling over a steep curb can damage your:
- Front bumper – The impact can crack or scrape the lower fascia.
- Oil pan – A sudden hit can cause leaks or punctures.
- Exhaust system – The underside of your car takes a beating each time it scrapes.
- Suspension and alignment – The constant jolt from a curb can throw off your suspension over time.
A driveway curb ramp creates a gentle slope, eliminating the risk of scraping and making every entry and exit smooth.
Not All Curbs Are the Same – Measure Before You Buy
Driveway curbs vary in size, so you’ll need to measure your curb to ensure the ramp will fit properly. Here’s how:
- Position a rigid object along the curb – Use a straight, rigid item like a piece of scrap lumber or a long level. Rest one end at the top of the curb and let the other end extend down to the street side of the curb or street surface.
- Find the lowest point of the gutter – Look at about the center of your 20-inch measurement and identify the deepest part of the gutter.
- Measure the gap – Take a measurement from the bottom of your stick (or level) down to the lowest point of the gutter, keeping the measuring tape perpendicular to the stick.
- Check your fit – This measurement must be between 1.75 inches and 3 inches for the curb ramp to fit correctly.
If your curb is outside of this range, the ramp may not sit properly, which could affect its performance.
Easy Installation – No Concrete Bolting Required
Installing the curb ramp is quick and simple, with no need for concrete bolting:
- Lay the pieces upside down on the sidewalk next to the curb.
- Bolt the sections together using the included hardware.
- Flip the ramp over by rolling it toward the curb until it’s in place.
Since a 12-foot section weighs about 150 lbs, it stays securely in place without the need for permanent mounting.
Water Flow & Drainage
The ramp features a built-in gap on the bottom, allowing water to flow freely through the gutter. This ensures that rainwater and drainage systems are not obstructed while still providing a smooth driveway entrance.
A Simple Fix for a Frustrating Problem
A driveway curb ramp is an easy, long-term solution that saves your car from damage and makes every entry and exit smoother and safer. With a simple installation, you can protect your vehicle and eliminate the hassle of scraping over your driveway curb every day.
