Ulti-MATE cabinet door locks keep your cabinet doors securely closed to help prevent theft or a child getting into things they shouldn’t. If your doors aren’t locking properly or the key won’t turn, it’s usually just a small alignment issue or a simple installation mistake that can be fixed with a screwdriver.

How the Lock Works
Ulti-MATE cabinets use a two-part lock system that relies on lock flanges being installed in the correct locations and facing the right direction:

  • One flange attaches to a fixed panel inside the cabinet (this varies depending on the model).
  • The other flange attaches to the left door.
On the closet cabinet, the flange mounts to the center fixed shelf. On other Ulti-MATE cabinets, the flange may mount to either the upper or lower panel. The correct location for your specific cabinet is shown in the instruction manual included with your kit.

When both flanges are mounted correctly, turning the key engages the mechanism and securely locks both doors together.

Drawer Cabinet Locking
The Ulti-MATE cabinet with four drawers includes a lock on the top drawer only. The lower drawers do not lock and can be opened freely.

Common Installation Mistakes
If the lock doesn’t work or the key won’t turn, check these areas first:

  • Flange placement: Confirm that one flange is attached to the correct fixed panel for your model and the other to the left door. Installing them in the wrong spots will prevent the lock from engaging.
  • Flange orientation: Make sure both flanges face the correct way. If one is upside down or rotated, the lock tongue and catch won’t line up.
  • Flange alignment: Ensure each flange is positioned so the two parts meet squarely when the doors are closed.
  • Door alignment: Even if the flanges are correct, the doors may still need small hinge adjustments for the lock to work smoothly.

Testing the Lock
Once you’ve verified the flange locations:

  1. Push both doors inward (toward the inside of the cabinet) with your left hand.
  2. While holding the doors in, turn the key with your right hand.
  3. If the lock engages while you’re pressing inward, the door hinges need minor adjustment to bring the doors into proper alignment.

Adjusting the Hinges
Ulti-MATE cabinets use European-style hinges, which make fine-tuning easy without removing the doors. Each hinge has built-in screws for adjusting how the door sits:

  • Side-to-side adjustment: Moves the door closer to or farther from the other door so the lock flanges align correctly.
  • In-and-out adjustment: Moves the door deeper into or outward from the cabinet face to help the latch catch properly.
  • Up-and-down adjustment: Raises or lowers the door for even spacing and smooth operation.

Make small quarter-turn adjustments and test the lock after each one. The goal is for both doors to close flush so the key turns smoothly without any force.

Final Tip
Once the lock engages cleanly, open and close the doors several times to confirm everything stays aligned. Tighten any loose hinge screws when you’re finished. A properly aligned set of European hinges and correctly installed lock flanges will keep your Ulti-MATE cabinets secure, smooth to operate, and looking great for years to come.
