Burning any type of fuel can create moisture in the air which may cause problems when doing body work on cars. Electric heaters do not create moisture when they create heat because they use an electric coil as opposed to a burner.
For a normal, non-insulated 2.5 car garage, it will take 45,000+ BTUs to keep the garage at around 50° There are other factors that can influence the needed BTU's, such as outside temperature, windows, and insulation.
When using a propane heater to heat your garage, you are going to need at least a 100 pound tank of propane to run it for any good length of time. A smaller propane tank will not contain the needed pressure to operate the heater.
